Ratamestarin mietteitä:

” I always try to do something special for the IR I design. In the past it was sometimes small sprints, some interval training, control picking. I like to be there at the start and talk to the runners about the special courses I make. For obvious reasons this was not advised, so I only have normal courses to offer this time.

Even so I designed the courses with a few governing ideas, to give it a special theme. The 5km or longer courses have interesting route choices to take the runners to detail rich areas where there are small legs. This forces the runners to constantly switch between two different type of orienteering. One where you can travel fast and execute your route choice, and one when you have to slow down to read the map carefully to find your control among the many small details. The switching on and off constantly is mentally quite draining, and it should be a good exercise for those who are training for Jukola. We accommodated those who want to have a longer course to train, 9km and also 12km long are available for the runners. Another design element is that as much as I could, I hid controls from the running direction. Often you will find the object first and the control after.

The forest is really beautiful, I hope everyone will have a pleasant run at Solvalla!”
