Instructions

Iltarastit is a weekly orienteering event and open for everyone. You do not need to be a member of a club. The events are not competitions but the organizer provides timing for participants. Please note that you participate at your own risk.

There are alternative courses from beginners to more experienced; 2, 3,5, 4V, 5, 7 or 9 km. The longer courses are also more demanding from an orienteering skills point of view. 4V is shorter, but demanding. The longest courses are available only in Nuuksio National Park.

If you are a first timer, please ask Iltarastit staff for guidance when you arrive. We are happy to assist you! Terrains close to the capital region are recommended for those who are new to orienteering. You can start any time during the times given above, but be sure to reserve enough time to be back before the finish is closed.

We use Emit cards – the Nordic system for electronic punching and timing. You can rent a device from us if you don’t have one. Each control in the terrain is equipped with an Emit device for punching. The identification number of the control is visible at the control in the terrain. The same number is shown in the control descriptions on the map.

You can check your results (with your total time and split times) online after you have completed the course.

We expect you to behave as a good citizen and avoid entering private yards or running on cultivated land. You must not use or cross highways or railways. You may use or cross a road, but be careful – they are not blocked from traffic.

You are not obliged to choose a track from the alternatives provided by the organizers: you’re free to draw your own route by connecting controls as you see best fit. There are maps available with all controls.

The controls will remain in the terrain usually for two weeks after the event, without the Emit devices. The time period will be shown on the map. During that time, you can use the maps and tracks at any time best suited for you.

After the event, maps can be purchased from:

Alternatively, you can purchase and print a map online from Rastilippu.
